Gesänge zu der Oper Der Bergsturz bey Goldau by Weigl and Reil is an opera libretto from the early 19th century. It presents a three-act, song-driven drama about a Swiss mountain community whose joy on a wedding day is shattered by a catastrophic landslide, exploring faith, love, and communal solidarity in the face of disaster. The story opens in Goldau with the farmer Hatwyl, his wife Gertrud, their children, and the betrothed couple Josephine and Willer celebrating a hopeful morning. Their neighbor Wunibald, secretly heartsick and intent on leaving his homeland, bids farewell just as the mountain collapses, burying the family in darkness. In the wake of the catastrophe, a hermit and villagers pray, but Wunibald insists on action, organizes the dig, and follows faint cries beneath the rubble. As Hatwyl hovers between despair and prayer, the rescuers break through; Wunibald bravely descends and saves the entire family. Reunited, they give thanks, and the chorus closes in praise of divine providence and human courage. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
