"Dropped Stitches in Tennessee History" by John Allison is a historical account written in the late 19th century. The work appears to delve into the early history of Tennessee, focusing on the lives and experiences of its pioneers, particularly examining aspects not yet highlighted in previous publications. At the start of the book, Allison dedicates his work to his mother, who sparked his passion for the early history of Tennessee. He outlines his intent not to provide a comprehensive history but rather to gather lesser-known facts about the early days of the settlement, focusing on personal accounts gained from interviews with elderly locals and archival research. The opening chapters introduce key figures, primarily Andrew Jackson, illustrating his early life as an attorney in Jonesboro and the significant events surrounding the formation of a unique court system and governance in frontier Tennessee. Allison sets the stage for a narrative that interweaves personal anecdotes with historical data, creating a vivid picture of a formative period in Tennessee's development.
