Goya, Francisco
"Los Desastres de la guerra" by Francisco Goya is a series of 82 prints created between 1810 and 1820. These works serve as a visual protest against the violence of the Peninsular War and its aftermath. Breaking from traditional heroic war art, Goya depicts the brutal impact of conflict on individuals—soldiers and civilians alike. The series shows atrocities, starvation, and degradation, then documents the crushing disappointment when Spain's restored monarchy rejected liberal reforms. Not published until 35 years after his death, these prints reveal Goya's private rage against war's horrors. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
