"International May Day and American Labor Day" by Boris Reinstein is a historical account written in the early 20th century. This book explores the contrasting nature and significance of two holidays dedicated to labor—the internationally recognized May Day and the American Labor Day. Reinstein discusses the origins, meanings, and implications of both events, linking them to the broader struggles of the working class for emancipation and political recognition. In the book, Reinstein critiques the American Labor Day as a holiday orchestrated by capitalist powers to placate the working class, contrasting it with the revolutionary spirit of May Day, established to unite workers worldwide in their struggles against exploitation. He argues that while May Day represents a call to arms for workers' rights and solidarity across borders, American Labor Day symbolizes a superficial appeasement that hinders the advancement of true labor rights. Throughout, Reinstein emphasizes the importance of class consciousness and organization among laborers, asserting that real emancipation can only come through a united front against the capitalist class and its interests.
