"The Vivisectors' Directory" by Benjamin Bryan, with a preface by Frances Power Cobbe, is a scientific publication written in the late 19th century. This work serves as a comprehensive list of licensed vivisectors in the United Kingdom and notable physiologists in foreign laboratories, essentially cataloging those involved in vivisection practices. It likely aims to inform and arm anti-vivisection activists with critical information about individuals and their experimental activities. The opening of the text outlines the purpose and intention behind compiling this directory, highlighting the need for a reliable reference for those opposing vivisection. The authors express a hope that the directory will serve as a resource for understanding the extent and nature of vivisection in Europe, listing names, licenses, and specific cruel experiments conducted by various physiologists. Notably, the preface emphasizes the disturbing nature of the recorded experiments, painting a picture of the moral implications associated with such cruelty towards animals in the name of scientific progress.
