The book recounts significant events and figures from the colonial period in America, featuring prominent characters such as Puritan preacher Roger Williams and Virginia rebel Nathaniel Bacon, among others. It aims to engage young readers with the stories of early American life, focusing on themes of bravery, justice, and the challenges faced by the settlers. The opening of the book introduces Roger Williams, who arrives in New England in 1630 aboard the ship "Lyon". Initially welcomed by the Puritan leaders, Williams finds himself at odds with their rigid beliefs and ultimately leaves for Plymouth.
