"Studies in the Out-Lying Fields of Psychic Science" by Hudson Tuttle is a scientific publication written in the late 19th century. The work explores various phenomena associated with psychic experiences, such as clairvoyance, trance states, and the transmission of thought, grounding these topics in the concept of a psychic ether that interacts with consciousness. Tuttle aims to provide a framework for understanding spiritual realities and the relationship between the physical and spiritual realms, arguing for the importance of a scientific approach to psychic phenomena. The opening portion of the book introduces the foundational concepts upon which Tuttle builds his exploration of psychic science. He discusses the existence of a psychic ether connected to thought and suggests that human beings can receive impressions from this ether in different states of consciousness, including trance and clairvoyance. Tuttle argues that many psychic phenomena are linked to an understanding of immortality, emphasizing that the mind and spirit are capable of functioning beyond the limitations of the physical body. He advocates for a scientific examination of these experiences instead of dismissing them as superstitions, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of human consciousness and its connection to the larger universe.
