"Indian Methodist Hymn-book" by Thomas Crosby, Wm. H. Barraclough, and C. M. Tate is a collection of hymns compiled for use in the Fraser River Indian Mission of the Methodist Church, likely composed in the late 19th century. The book serves as both a spiritual resource and a cultural artifact, integrating hymns in the Alkomaylum dialect and Chinook language, aimed at providing religious songs to Indigenous communities. The hymnbook features a range of traditional Methodist hymns, translated into local dialects to resonate with the worship practices of the Alkomaylum nation along the Fraser River and on Vancouver Island. Each hymn emphasizes themes of devotion, faith, and community, while also providing cultural content through the inclusion of local dialects and expressions. Additionally, it contains key religious texts such as the Lord's Prayer and Ten Commandments, making it a comprehensive resource for worship and spiritual education within the community.
