Testa, Carlos
"A Influência Europeia na África perante a Civilização e as Relações" by Carlos Testa is a historical account written in the late 19th century. The document delves into the impacts of European colonization on Africa, particularly discussing the Treaty of May 30, 1879, known as "Lourenço Marques." The likely topic centers around the complexities of African civilizational development and the socio-economic dynamics between African tribes and European powers, touching on issues such as the role of trade, colonization, and cultural interactions. The opening of the text presents Africa as a continent rich in history yet largely unexplored in terms of modern governance and development. Carlos Testa argues that while Africa has been home to ancient civilizations, it remains largely untouched by education and civilizing impulses compared to Europe and the Americas. He remarks on the various obstacles hindering Africa’s progress, including climatic challenges, tribal divisions, and the repercussions of the slave trade. Testa emphasizes the necessity for a concerted effort from European nations to promote trade and civilization in Africa, proposing that the path to African development lies in the establishment of social bonds and economic reform.
