"The World's Great Sermons, Volume 03: Massillon to Mason" by Grenville Kleiser is a collection of influential sermons compiled during the early 20th century. The volume features notable works from renowned preachers and theologians, showcasing themes of Christian faith, salvation, and moral conduct as discussed by figures like Massillon, Saurin, and Wesley. The collection aims to explore profound spiritual truths and encourage readers in their personal reflection and faith journey. The opening of this volume presents the noteworthy sermon by Jean Baptiste Massillon titled "The Small Number of the Elect." In his address, Massillon confronts the congregation with the difficult and sobering question of salvation's rarity, using biblical examples to emphasize that only a few achieve eternal life. He speaks on the moral implications and the need for genuine penitence as essential to salvation. The sermon serves both as a warning and an exhortation, inviting listeners to evaluate their lives and spiritual state, ultimately urging them to strive toward a life of holiness and faithfulness before God.
